Do I need this just to print in black and white?

Usually not — most printers and print dialogs have their own "Black & white" or "Grayscale" option that gives a sharper result for a single print job, since it doesn't have to flatten the page into an image first. Use this tool when you specifically need a grayscale file — to send someone, archive, or upload somewhere that needs it already converted.

Will the file get smaller?

Not necessarily. Every page becomes a flattened image, so a document that was originally mostly small, efficient text can end up larger as grayscale JPEG pages, even though it visually looks simpler. Very color-image-heavy PDFs are more likely to shrink.

Can I still select or search the text afterward?

No — converting to grayscale flattens every page into a picture, so the text is no longer selectable or searchable, the same trade-off as VitePDF's Compress PDF and Redact content tools make when they rasterize a page.

Is there a file size limit?
