OCR PDF text search

Scans every page (including scanned/image-only pages with no selectable text) so you can search for a word or phrase.

PDF to Word

Extracts the real text where the PDF has it, and runs OCR automatically on scanned/image-only pages. Works best for simple, single-column documents — complex layouts, tables, and multi-column text won't be preserved exactly.

PDF to PowerPoint

Each page becomes one slide, rendered as a full-page image — layout, fonts, and graphics come out exactly as they look in the PDF. Runs entirely in your browser.

PDF to Excel

Reconstructs rows and columns from the PDF’s own text spacing, and runs OCR automatically on scanned/image-only pages. Works best for simple, clearly-aligned tables — free-form text near a table may get split oddly.

PDF to JPG

Each page becomes a .jpg image. Runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Multiple pages are zipped together for download.

PDF to HTML

Produces one self-contained .html file — an image of each page with an invisible text layer on top, so it looks exactly like the PDF but the text stays selectable, searchable (Ctrl/Cmd+F), and copyable. Runs entirely in your browser.

How to redact a PDF online

  1. Choose the PDF you want to redact.
  2. Search for the text you want to remove — every match is listed with the page it's on, so you can redact just the ones you mean.
  3. Or click and drag directly on the page to black out anything: a signature, a photo, a whole paragraph.
  4. Move through other pages with the page navigator, then click Download redacted PDF.

Why use VitePDF

  • Real redaction, not a sticker: pages with a redaction are converted to a flat image before download, so the text and objects underneath are actually gone — not just covered by a black box someone could delete or select through.
  • Search finds text automatically; manual boxes catch everything else, including scanned pages after a quick OCR pass.
  • Everything happens in your browser — your PDF is never uploaded anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is the text really gone, or just hidden under a black box?

Really gone. Any page with at least one redaction is rendered to an image with the black box baked in, then that image replaces the page — there's no text or vector content left underneath to select, copy, or recover. Pages with no redactions are left untouched, so they keep their original text and quality.

Can it find sensitive data automatically, without me searching for it?

Yes — check any of "Email addresses", "Phone numbers", or "ID numbers" and click "Scan for these" to find every match across the whole document at once, listed with the page each one is on. ID-number matching just looks for 9 digits in a row or an SSN-style XXX-XX-XXXX pattern, so it can't tell an actual ID from any other 9-digit number — review the matches before redacting them.

Does search work on scanned PDFs?

Search first checks each page's real text layer, which scanned pages don't have. If VitePDF detects pages like that, it offers to run OCR on just those pages so you can search their text too — everything still happens in your browser.

Will it find a phrase that's split across two lines?

Search matches text within a single run as the PDF stores it, so a phrase broken across two separate text objects might not be found automatically. Draw a manual box over anything search misses.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 280 MB are free — Premium removes that limit entirely.
