Frequently asked questions

Can I really change the text that is already in a PDF?

Yes. Click any line of text on the page and type the new wording. VitePDF removes the original text from the page content when it can and draws your new text in the same place. If the original cannot be removed cleanly, it is covered with the background colour instead, and the tool tells you when that happened.

Will the new text look exactly like the old font?

Not always. Your new text is drawn with a built-in font (Helvetica, Times or Courier style, or DejaVu for Greek, Cyrillic and other alphabets). The original fonts embedded in a PDF are usually subsets that cannot be reused, so VitePDF picks the closest match and lets you change the font family, size, bold, italic and colour.

Does it work with Greek and other languages?

Yes. Any text that is not covered by the standard Latin fonts is automatically drawn with an embedded Unicode font, so Greek, Cyrillic and most European alphabets work. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic and Hebrew text is not supported for new text yet.

What about scanned PDFs?

A scanned PDF is just a picture of a page, so there is no text to edit. Use OCR first, or use the Add text mode to write on top of the scan.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The whole process runs in your browser, so your PDF never leaves your device.
