Why batch Bates-number PDFs with VitePDF
- Number a whole case file in one pass, with an unbroken sequence from the first page of the first document to the last page of the last.
- Nothing is uploaded — your documents never leave your device.
- Non-destructive: the number is stamped on top of each page, so text stays selectable and the original content is unchanged.
Frequently asked questions
What does a Bates number look like?
A prefix followed by a zero-padded number, for example ABC000001, ABC000002 and so on. You choose the prefix, the first number and how many digits to pad to.
Does the numbering continue across files?
Yes, when the option is on. Files are numbered in the order they appear in the list, so the first page of the second file continues from the last page of the first. Turn it off to restart at the start number in every file.
Can I use any characters in the prefix?
The prefix may use Latin letters, digits and basic punctuation. Other scripts are not supported because the number is drawn with a standard built-in font; you will see a message if the prefix cannot be used.
What about password-protected PDFs?
They are flagged and skipped. Remove the password first with Batch unlock PDF, then edit them.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDFs are processed entirely in your browser tab, so they never leave your device.
